Phinda Vlei Lodge is situated along the edge of the rare sand forest. The lodge itself is sophisticated and integrated with great privacy into the surrounding bush.
Graceful and elegant, this enchanting lodge includes six thatched suites decorated in an exquisite blend of North and West African styles, with hints of a Balinese influence.
Suites overlook a lawny meadow (vlei) complete with a watering hole, where guests can observe herds of zebra and antelope grazing around, as well as a variety of birdlife. Each morning and early evening the animals appear, dotting the sweeping vlei in a never-ending wildlife parade.
The atmosphere is intimate, exclusive and full of luxury. Large private lap pools provide the ideal place to chill out and enjoy the views of the African wilderness uncovered. The comfortable guest sitting area is an ideal place to unwind on a cool afternoon. Activities
Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. Experienced, knowledgeable and personable rangers are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience.
Trackers sit up at the front of the vehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skillfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings. Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies.
Expect one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species. A treat for keen birders! Guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged. Walks are usually arranged in the early hours during the summer months when temperatures are more moderate. Being on foot affords a unique and altogether different view of the bush (source).
